Meredith Vieira had a whale of a time in Tampa for the Super Bowl and the myriad festivities associated with it, but once again, her choppers became part of the story.

The TODAY co-host told Al Roker Monday she suffered a post-party mishap trying to use her teeth as a pair of scissors. "I actually chipped my front tooth – I was tearing off a wrist band from one of those parties I went to last night," Vieira said, quickly adding, "I was totally sober, nothing like that."

Meredith got to play dress-up as a pirate during the Super Bowl – the game was played at the home stadium of the NFL Tampa Bay Bucaneers – but with her chipped tooth, she could have played the part of a gnarly swashbuckler even without the fake gold teeth she sported.

Vieira told Roker she plans to get her tooth fixed when she returns from Tampa – and no doubt she's on a first-name basis with her dentist. Her Super Bowl mishap marks at least the eighth time she's cracked a tooth.

She famously cracked her two front teeth in 2007 shortly after she slammed the back of her head during an ice-skating segment with Will Ferrell on TODAY. Many believed her noggin-rattling was the cause of her dental fracture, although Meredith has said her dentist believes her habit of teeth-grinding during sleep is the root of her problems.
