Editor's note: After today's segment on "Stiletto Stoners" we received the following submission. While we do not necessarily agree with or endorse the viewer's opinions and do not condone illegal activity, we include it here as an interesting sidelight to the topic of young professional woman choosing to smoke marijuana rather than drink a glass of wine to unwind. She asked that her name be withheld.
What a wonderful topic, Stiletto Stoners was a great segment on the TODAY show today. I think the estimate of 8 million women smoking marjiana is very low. I smoked pot in college casually in the early '80, graduating in 1987 from a small liberal arts college in the Midwest. There really wasn't much going on in the drug world on campus other than cocaine, to my knowledge. I really had no experience with pot after college: I worked hard, married, had kids, saw the occasional smoker at various parties, but that was it. When I was divored in my late 30s, a friend suggested that I use pot to relax my nerves and that it was less complicating than alcohol. I gave it a shot, and she was right.
Alcohol for me, gives you a headache the next day and has other side effects, not to mention the calories and the empty down feeling, and sick feeling. Pot is just plain relaxing, doesn't have any lingering effects and is a nice wind-down at the end of the day. I did smoke cigarettes for 20 years, but quit when I had kids and have zero interest in smoking cigarettes. As a matter of fact, cigarettes smell horrible to me and I can't stand to be around someone who smokes them. Marijuana is easy to get, relatively inexpensive, and keeps me happy and level-headed. I can clean my house, help my kids with their homework and cook dinner, all while in a nice, relaxed and comfortable state.
I think teens and those who may have other addictions that use pot to excess may be "stoners" with nothing else to do but sit on the couch, but I have great success in my career, in life and with my friends, and it's never been a problem. I am not embarrassed to say that I smoke "weed." As a matter of fact, my friends will say, "Can you get me some?"
With all the problems in the world, I don't think weed is one of them. Eight million women using??? It would be interesting to see what the real number is. The story that CNBC did on The Emerald Triangle was fascinating. California's debt problems could be solved with the legalization of marijuana! Vote for Pot.......LOL.
