One brave boy took to the TODAY plaza to ask a really scary question. 

Ben, from Phoenix, Arizona, had come to the plaza clutching a homemade sign, hoping to get a moment on TV to catch Kelly Pope's eye. But just in case she didn't see it, TODAY got Kelly on the phone so Ben could make his big pitch live. With Kelly on the phone from Phoenix (where it was 6 a.m.), Ben made the request, in front of millions of viewers.

"Will you go to homecoming with me?" he asked, after buttering her up a bit with a happy birthday wish.

 After a brief, shocked silence that felt like an eternity, Kelly responded. 

"Sure!" she enthused, her voice sleepy but her acceptance clear. Hey, at least he got his answer. Watch Ben and Kelly's big moment in the video.
