How Matt's clues revealed his Day 4 location

TODAY

Updated on 11/10 at 7:30 a.m. ET:
Matt revealed that he was located at the "top of Europe" this morning, standing at the Jungfraujoch research center in the Swiss Alps.

Did you guess correctly from Matt's teasers? If not, here's a quick breakdown of how you could have been clued in.

"Time is of the essence" hinted at Switzerland, which is famous for its clocks and watches; "train our sights" referred to the fact you need to take a train to get there. The clue also gave a nod to the very first Where in the World journey in 1998, where Matt landed in Cairo, in front of the Sphinx (this morning, Matt broadcast live from the Sphinx Observatory).

As for the picture clue below, it showed research equipment used by scientists at the high-altitude research center.

Were you correct? Natalie was about as close as anyone this morning when she guessed a location in the Swiss Alps where you need to take a train!

TODAY

Updated at 9 p.m. ET with the high-res picture clue:
Matt explored the exotic Asian cultures of Malaysia for Day 3 of Where in the World.

Where will he end up tomorrow? Matt dropped two clues to help you figure it out.

Here's the clue Matt unveiled this morning on air:
Time is of the essence as we train our sights on where it all began for us back in 1998.

(Check out our slideshow of all of the 47 places Matt has visited during his Where in the World trips.)

I think Matt may be traveling to Mesopotamia, the cradle of civilization.

I think he's going to Egypt and he will be shooting something! Timing is everything when you are shooting a gun especially if it requires using a sight.

The crew switched day 2's location with day 4 due to weather conditions? We just have to figure out where in the world there was compromising weather the other day and that is where Matt is headed for tomorrow...?

Where it all began for us in 1998 = Location in 1st season.

Time is of essence = closet location to Malaysia.

Train our sights = natural sight which is sunrise/sunset.

Answer: INDIA was one of the location of the first season, the closest to Malaysia and at 7am EST, it will be time for sunset in India.

the clue has the word "train" & 1998 in it.... I think Matt's going to Tokyo, Japan next. The 1st GCT train was completed there in Oct. 1998. And Matt hasn't traveled to Japan in any season of "Where in the World is Matt Lauer?"

The first day was Eygpt but I'm thinking he is trying to stump us and say the first Thrusday of the first Where is Matt. So I"m going with India.

I think he is going to Athens, Greece tomorrow.

I think Olympics when I hear train. Athens is where it all began. Athens was named as the venue for the 2004 Olympics in 1998.

NBC's first Olympics coverage were the Tokoyo games in 1964. In 1998 Nagano hosted the games. Matt will be riding the bullet train between these two cities. Tuesday's train ride was postponed because high speed trains do not run during inclement weather.

I think he's going to Sydney. My first thought was Taj Mahal in Agra because that was the first international broadcast of "Where in the World" but he also visited Sydney on his first tour and their airport was closed tuesday due to bad weather. Maybe that caused the switch-a-roo in this weeks schedule?

Ok, ihave done my research, Where it all began was in Egypt, however the clue was to train there sights, So after putting them together i have come up with "The Sleeping Trains Of Abela Egypt!

I don't think he's going to do a "repeat". He may return to a country but not the same city or place. So, Cairo, Greece, etc are off the table and correct me if I'm wrong - but I believe he has already broadcasted from a bullet train - or someone from NBC has.
