Matt Lauer signs new deal to stay at TODAY

    Updated April 6, 7:14 a.m. ET

Where in the world is Matt Lauer?

He’ll be in Studio 1A for a while longer.

Matt confirmed Friday morning on TODAY that he has signed a new long-term contract with NBC News.

"This is my family," he said as the crew and co-anchors erupted into applause. "I love this job. I love working with you guys."

What took so long? "Truth be told, I was developing an idea for a new show, where viewers could tune in every morning and see someone they know lose a little more of his hair every single day right in front of their eyes," Matt said Friday. "But then I thought, I could just stay here and do that."

Matt has co-anchored the show since Jan. 6, 1997. He joined the morning program in January 1994 as the news reader.

Tell Matt how you feel about this news on our Facebook page.

Connect with TODAY through new Facebook page

    By Steve Veres, TODAY.com

It's a whole new day on Facebook this morning, as TODAY has an updated brand page!

America's favorite morning news show was among a select few chosen to roll out the social networking site's new design, and TODAY's refreshed Facebook page features a new timeline that allows viewers to dive into our 60-year history.

    • Watch our first anchor, Dave Garroway, introduce the world to a different sort of program during our first show in 1952. (A program that later hired a chimpanzee as co-host – a decision that likely saved the broadcast from cancellation.)
    • Relive the royal wedding. Or that other royal wedding! (Or for that matter, TODAY's Halloween royal wedding!)
    • And find your favorite memories of our anchors, including Matt's interview with Tom Cruise, Ann's trip to the South Pole, Al learning to luge and Natalie hang-gliding in Brazil.

Our new page is personalized, too, so you can see your friends' comments in the timeline.

Head on over to Facebook. (And be sure to Like us while you're there!)

Love us? Get the social app for Facebook Timeline, making it simple to share what you’ve been reading and watching on our site. Sign up here.

More on Digital Life: Facebook launches brand timelines

Steve Veres is an editor for TODAY.com. He's humbled that a chimpanzee has made a much bigger impact at TODAY than he ever could.

    TODAY has something to share...

From Sarika Dani, TODAY.com managing editor

    Dear viewers and readers,

We love breaking stories about the things you care about, and you like to be the first to share these stories with your friends. To that end, we’ve launched a new social app for Facebook Timeline that makes it easier to share what you’ve been reading and watching on our site.

Want all your pals to see that viral video of the rescued baby otter or join the debate about whether the French make better parents? Just enable the app and everything you devour on the site will show up on your Facebook Timeline, right next to those updates about your perfect Sunday brunch or that aww-dorable photo of your kid. You’ll also get to see what content your friends are checking out.

But if for some reason you don’t feel like fessing up to reading about Justin Bieber’s latest antics, you can turn the sharing function off at any time. The choice is yours. Just look for the “allow” button on our stories and videos.

You’ll find more details in the explanation here, and please don’t forget to tell me and the TODAY team what you think in the comments below or via email. We’re counting on you to share!

Hoda, don't feel bad, funny thing is the very people you just showed from The Voice are the exact people I questioned them voting for. I would have voted the blonde country singer, the bearded guy instead of the bald guy and the duets for sure over the hip hop guy. You are RIGHT ON!!!!!!!!

X-citing news: TODAY unveils voice-activated app on Xbox 360

We have X-citing news for Xbox owners (or lucky folks who may be expecting to find one under their Christmas tree): TODAY.com announced the launch of its new, custom app on Xbox LIVE. The exciting new app is part of the all-new Xbox 360 experience that gives you the power to control the Xbox with your voice.

    TODAY

The new custom TODAY.com app on Xbox 360 will enable you to find the most popular videos of the day simply by asking for them vocally.

The voice activation, powered by Kinect and Bing search, turns your voice into the ultimate remote control. You can use your voice to effortlessly find the latest show, watch the most popular videos of the day and search for stories by specific anchors or your favorite topics. You say it and Xbox finds it.

“With the Xbox LIVE app, the TODAY show is again evolving with the times and technologies,” said Jim Bell, TODAY Executive Producer. “TODAY has already successfully expanded beyond TV screens and into the lives of millions on a variety of platforms. The brand that was created 60 years ago as a 2-hour morning news show is now available at any time and on any number of devices, from laptops to iPads and now the Xbox.”

“We want to make it easy to enjoy TODAY wherever you are whenever you have the time,” said Jen Brown, Director of TODAY Digital. “This new app introduces the full breadth of our content to the interactive Xbox environment in millions of living rooms. And there’s nothing easier than asking for the video you want and that video immediately appearing on your screen.”

In addition to getting access to Matt, Ann, Al, Natalie and the entire TODAY family, TODAY on Xbox LIVE offers unique opportunities for advertisers.

“We’re always looking for innovative ways to deliver value for our advertising partners,” said Laura Hagen, General Manager of Brand Solutions, TODAY Digital. “TODAY is a trailblazer in cross-platform brand extensions and we’re excited about Xbox LIVE because it delivers a unique audience who’s truly engaged with the product for hours on end. That’s the perfect environment for connecting with consumers and showcasing premium brands."

Love a deal? Meet Collin and our new coupon blog, Hip2Save

By Jen Brown, director of TODAY.com

It’s no secret we all love a good deal, and here at TODAY.com we love hooking you up with the best savings out there.

With this in mind, we’re thrilled to introduce you to the newest member of the TODAY.com family: Collin Morgan, the coupon-savvy mom behind Hip2Save.com.

    Hip2Save

Collin Morgan, the founder and resident blogger of Hip2Save.com.

Together we’re launching a partnership that will bring the awesome deals hand-picked by Collin here to TODAY.com.

Based on the huge response to Jill’s Steals and Deals (don’t forget to check out today's back–to-school swag, eyeglasses, rings and more coming at 9:15 a.m. ET), we know you’re going to enjoy Collin’s coupons, freebies and special offers. And we know you’re going to love Collin.

In the years before she launched her blog, Collin was a young mom who didn’t have a lot of experience with budgeting. As her family grew, she and her husband Jeremy, a Marine, found themselves in financial difficulties. Determined to get out of debt, Collin started couponing. She began blogging about her experience as a way to pass on the savings to friends and family, but little did she know how many others would be interested in these deals.

    Hip2Save

Collin, right, blogs at her computer with her sister, Bryn.

Today the Hip2Save audience has grown to almost 1 million readers a month! And it’s become a family affair. Sister Bryn O'Kelley and mother Susan Jacobus help keep the ever-growing train moving, and Jeremy and their three kids often making cameos in Collin’s coupon tips videos that she posts on the blog.

In the time we’ve gotten to know Collin, we’ve been impressed with how passionate she is about both her family and her readers. In addition to serving up coupons that will stretch the family budget, she takes time to host reader dinners in various cities and bring the community together around important causes.  Most recently, she hit the road to distribute thousands of dollars of needed supplies provided by Hip2Save readers to people whose lives were devastated by tornadoes.

We recognize in Collin and her family the same values we share at TODAY, which is a big reason why we’re very excited by our new partnership. So when you get a chance, please check out Hip2Save, say hello to Collin and start saving!

New weekend TODAY EP 'excited', loves that show is a 'family'

    Dee Dee Thomas

Dee Dee Thomas stands with her husband and her oldest child.

Dee Dee Thomas, the newly named executive producer of the weekend editions of TODAY, answered a few questions about her new gig. Check out the short Q&A below.

What do you love most about TODAY?
At the TODAY Show (and Weekend), it's always something new. We continue to reinvent ourselves with new topics and segments, but we always stay true to the news.

I also love that we are a family. We share good times and bad times -- birthdays, weddings, personal losses.

What moment do you remember most during your TODAY tenure?
When I look back on my time at the show, I remember most the behind-the-scenes moments: When the weddings went off without a hitch; watching an interview in the control room take on a life of its own; and feeling the energy of a live remote when we were at an exotic location.

What are you most excited about regarding the weekend editions of TODAY?
I'm excited about working with Lester, Amy and Jenna! And the weekend TODAY staff. I hope we can try a few new things and make a great show even better.

How are you celebrating the promotion with your family? I bet they're thrilled!
We are celebrating by quietly enjoying these last few days of my maternity leave! (Editor's note: Dee Dee's second child was born a few months earlier. Read a blog post she wrote For TODAY Moms during her pregnancy.)

What do you want to say to the lifelong fans of TODAY?
It's not an act! The people -- both on-air and behind-the-scenes -- are wonderful to know and wonderful to work for.

Leave your congratulations for Dee Dee in the comments below!
