Happy birthday, Nancy Guthrie! Savannah's mom turns 70 today, and our anchors surprised her with a phone call on the broadcast.

(Turnabout is only fair play: Nancy shocked Savannah last year by walking into Studio 1A without warning her daughter. See the clip on the right.)

The on-air conversation was adorable, and Nancy told the world she was celebrating the milestone with close friends and family.

But if Nancy sounded a bit puzzled by the whole thing, it's because she had no idea that millions of Americans were listening in on the chat.

"She figured it out when someone posted on her Facebook page," Savannah told TODAY.com.

But Nancy's a trouper and took it all in-stride, our anchor said. "She didn't mind being surprised and thought it was really sweet that Al and Natalie were on the line, too."

Nancy sounds like an amazing person, according to Savannah's email to TODAY.com. We asked our anchor to describe her mom, and the love letter Savannah sent back was so sweet we had to post it in full. Savannah wrote:

"My mom is an amazing and noble woman. She inspires everyone who knows her. She is whip smart, funny, full of integrity and wisdom. She also has the best sense of adventure. She's always up for something fun. As you can see, since we now know all of her birthday plans, she has a long list of friends and family who adore her and want to celebrate with her. She also looks FABULOUS! No one can believe she's 70."

Happy birthday, Matt! Our anchor celebrated his 54th today, and received a special performance from the one and only Steven Tyler.

Watch the American Idol judge and Aerosmith frontman sing to the TODAY frontman:

It wasn't the first time Matt's been serenaded by Steven.

During a one-on-one interview that aired earlier this year, the rocker improvised (we think) a short ditty that included Matt's name! Watch the clip below and click here for the full interview.

Savannah also brought Matt a gift ... sort of. She rummaged through his office and found a giant picture of Matt as a child, proudly holding up a fish he caught that was barely the size of his hand.

"That was probably 48 years ago," Matt said. "Back when I was that little, that was a big fish! It's not so great today."

And as the cake wheeled out, Matt didn't forget one special lady in his life who was also celebrating her birthday: Meredith Vieira!

"Happy birthday, sweetheart," Matt said and then blew a kiss. "Love ya!"

Savannah Guthrie joined fellow Professionals panelists Star Jones and Dr. Nancy Snyderman in wishing Donny Deutsch a happy 54th birthday this morning.

Despite presenting the brand guru with a cake, the real gift (well, at least for us) was awaiting Donny on a nearby monitor.

Following the a heated discussion of male versus female grooming time, it was only natural that Savannah offered an image from a distant time, back when Donny sported a 'fro.

"Please come clean now about the length of time it took to groom in those days," Guthrie demanded, as Donny broke into laughter.

"You look like a little Abbie Hoffman," Nancy explained. 

"You had an afro, way to go," Star exclaimed.

Never one to pass up a laugh, even at his own expense, Donny defended his hairstyle: "I had my pick; it was the '70s!"

Ian Sager is TODAY.com's editorial supervisor. He used to sport a giant mop of hair, but isn't so sure he could grow one anymore, sigh.

Guest anchor David Gregory joined Al, Savannah, Hoda and Jenna Bush Hager in wishing Ann Curry a happy birthday, albeit a day early. The anchor’s big day is actually tomorrow.

The gang – who had been sipping Walmart's low-cost wines – turned their attention to even sweeter treats when Hoda appeared in Studio 1A with cake and a glass of vino in tow.

Despite refraining from a round of everyone’s favorite copyrighted birthday song, the group managed to get Ann up and dancing after some cajoling from Bush Hager. 

"Dance! Dance! Dance," she chanted (we swear, they were just tasting the wines). 

"I toast you with Walmart wine," remarked Meet the Press moderator David Gregory as he congratulated his colleague.

Our gal Sara Haines is celebrating her birthday today.

Hoda joked Friday on the show she is turning 21 — again! "I'm legally able to drink!" Sara said while laughing as she passed out champagne. 

"Sara is one of the best," Hoda said in a toast. "You're lit from within." 

Kathie Lee also said she loved her and that she adds so much to the show. "You bring a youthfulness that we appreciate ... once in awhile," she joked.

It's Kathie Lee's birthday, and some very special guests made appearances to help her celebrate!

Frank Gifford, Kathie Lee's husband who is also marking his 81st birthday today, arrived on set with a hug and kiss. Hoda presented them a framed photo of Kathie Lee and her daughter Cassidy. And Matt Lauer gave both of them a kiss on the cheek.

But the fun didn't stop there! Actor and singer Jeff Bridges wished Kathie Lee a happy birthday and serenaded her with an original song. And TODAY contributor Jill Martin also surprised Kathie Lee by making over her dressing room.

And even though it was 10 a.m., that didn't stop Frank and Kathie Lee from enjoying one of their favorite dishes: Lamb chops, courtesy of family friend and chef Jimmy Neary.

Before the show ended, the TODAY crew rolled out a beautiful birthday cake and champagne for the two of them.

It's Hoda's birthday and to celebrate, a very special guest made his national television debut.

Hoda's boyfriend Jay arrived on set with flowers and a kiss to celebrate her 47th. 

It was a big moment for the couple: Though we first caught a glimpse of the attorney and single dad in July, this was the first time he's appeared on the show in the flesh.

Previously, the low-key duo had been keeping the details of their romance under wraps for months.

Later in the show, Sara got into the birthday spirit -- literally -- and climbed inside a giant cake costume to serenade the fourth hour co-host.

Even singer Vanessa Carlton, one of Hoda's favorite performers, hit the piano to sing a song. 

It's been a big couple of months for Hoda, whose book, "Hoda: How I Survived War Zones, Bad Hair, Cancer and Kathie Lee" is burning up the best-seller charts.

Kathie Lee and Hoda, on the otherhand, raised a glass (or two!) to Jim -- or "Sherpa," as Kathie Lee calls him. Something tells us that Jim may not get a sip ...
